Blazing the Trail: An Early History of Denver’s Jewish Community, 2009
Brief description of several early Jewish leaders of commerce, philanthropy, religion, and community as well as several Jewish lawyers, doctors, merchants, and politicians in Colorado.
Herman Weinberger, circa 1928-1953
Born in 1844, and descended from Hungarian and Galician families, Weinberger emigrated to the U.S. in 1888, folowing several years of teaching, brewery management, cattle trading and farming. In Denver he worked as a clerk and grocer, residing on Market Street. Herman and his wife Nettie were founders of B.M. H. Synagogue. A stained glass window was created in their honor at B.M. H. in 1953, by their children.

Henry Plonsky sits, wearing a suit and holding a document in his hand. Polish-born Plonsky arrived in Denver in 1877. He helped form an Orthodox minyan above his store on Larimer Street. He became a successful shoe and boot merchant in partnership with Leopold Mayer and was instrumental in the establishment of the Orthodox Jewish congregation Ahavey Emunah in 1880 and later the Beth HaMedrosh Hagodol Synagogue and the Beth Joseph congregation.
